Elementary students became codebreakers during library time on November 12th.  Mrs. Leinen joined Mrs. Bird to help students learn binary code, the most basic idea of how our computers work.  The students learned that binary means “on” or “off.”  Each binary digit is called a bit, a group of eight bits makes a byte, and a group of four bits forms a nibble.  The students learned how to decode and encode short messages. Each student was able to make and keep a binary bracelet with their initial on it.  What a great introduction to computer science!
